Shree Guru Gana Lahari Sangeeth Academy
Established on 09th May 2011 as a Non-Government Trust in Karnataka, our main purpose is to bring classical music to masses and to recognise unsung torchbearers of Hindustani Classical music.
The Puttashri Award
Today, across India, countless artists continue this noble journey—quietly yet passionately. As performers, teachers, and composers, they dedicate their lives to preserving, promoting, and evolving this heritage. Their work often goes unrecognized, yet it forms the very soul of our nation’s musical identity.
In reverence for their tireless efforts, we are proud to honour them with “Puttashri Award”—a recognition that celebrates the extraordinary yet often unseen contributions of such artists.
The award is named after legendry Sri Pandit Puttaraja Gawai, the revered saint-musician of Sri Veereshwara Punyashrama. Despite the challenge of lifelong blindness, Pandit Gawai dedicated his entire existence to music and social upliftment. A visionary and selfless Guru, he trained thousands of students—offering them musical and spiritual guidance free of charge, regardless of caste, creed, or background.
Through the Puttashri Award, we seek to honor his legacy by recognizing and empowering artists who, like him, embody dedication, humility, and service through music.
Music lessons for underprivileged
While the world is heading towards making business out of every opportunity, we believe that social and economic status should not deprive anyone from pursuing classical music. Through our academy, we provide training in Hindustani classical music to underprivileged and marginalized children. Our goal is to:
- Make music education accessible regardless of socio-economic background
- Instil discipline, confidence, and a sense of cultural identity in young learners
- Empower the next generation to carry forward our rich musical heritage
Through this initiative, we strive not only to create musicians, but to shape responsible, inspired individuals through the art of music.
